Keep calm and put your lipstick on

Give a woman the right lipstick and she can conquer the world.

My favourite blogger Meg did a whole post dedicated to lipstick and her favourite lip looks and it got me thinking, what lipstick do I prefer? Honestly, I don't know if I know the answer. But, I thought this could follow-up to my post But First Makeup and centre around the focal piece of the face, the lips. It's no secret that I like makeup. My entire birthday list was makeup this year, to my Mum's annoyance, but it was a pretty little bag full of goodies. To my surprise, there was no lipstick but that doesn't deter me in this post.
So, let's talk about lipstick.

Barry M's Lip Paint in shade 121 Pillar Box Red

I love a statement red lip as much as the next girl but finding the right lipstick, that's the challenge. Usually, a red lipstick will move around my lips and make the edges look fuzzy instead of sharp, do you know what I mean? I swear this happens to me whenever I wear statement colours. The product moves around too much and the edges of my lips suffer, pushing the colour onto my foundation. It's less than ideal. So, I ordered this lipstick in the hopes that it would last all day - I needed it for part of my costume for an all-day fancy dress bar crawl. As you can see, this lipstick is well used.

Honestly, this lipstick surprised me. It's thick, full of coverage and lasts all day with minor touch-ups. I wore it without concern all day (I was very drunk and the last thing on my mind was lipstick). I've worn it multiple times afterwards and have not yet regretted purchasing it. If you want a good lipstick for a low price, this is the lipstick for you.

Barry M's Unicorn, Neptune and Genie.

I'm sure you're all aware of these by now. The colour changing lipstick trend. Barry M has been sporting Genie for a while and I've resisted buying it again and again. But with the success of their Red Lip Paint, I thought it was time to try something new. When I went into Superdrug they were out of Genie, so instead, I picked up Neptune. I thought these were going to be gimmicky. Colour-changing lipstick is such an Instagram trend, but do they actually work? I was sceptical.

Shade: Neptune

This shade is royal blue in the tube but the moment it touches the skin, it transforms into a magenta-ish purple colour. Yes, I love watching it change colour on my lips and I was pleasantly surprised. It feels lighter in comparison to the red shade but there is full coverage, kind of like a lip stain. This does stay on the lips and is very hard to remove, you can't just wipe it away with a makeup wipe, you need to use a makeup remover. Safe to say, I was happy with my purchase and decided, I needed more Barry M Lipstick's in my life, so on my last trip to town, I decided to buy the other shade Genie. I was surprised and happy to see another shade, Unicorn and decided to get both.

Shade: Genie

I'd tried this shade on my hand when I was a teenager and was shooketh by the colour that appeared. This bright green lipstick transforms into a natural rosy pink that is just stunning. The colour is subtle but evident on the lip and is perfect for an everyday look or for younger children, my little sister loves these, I often let her use them instead of my more expensive lipsticks. If you like natural pink shades, this could be the lipstick for you AND it's green in the tube, could this be any cooler?

Shade: Unicorn

Unicorn is just stunning. I was immediately taken by this lemon yellow shade before I'd even seen it transform. I just love the colour yellow - it's so happy and beautiful. This is another pink shade when it touches the skin/lips. This has a purple tone to it. If I had to describe it, maybe a bubblegum pink. It's pink but a completely different shade to Genie.

Yes, these are gimmicky but they work and are fun.
Lipstick really can't get any better.

Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipsticks in shades
Celebrity Skin and Rose Matter

I've always struggled with liquid lips. I love them but sometimes they're just not up to scratch. I have some Makeup Revolution Liquid Lips but the formula is very drying and thick, I struggle to wear them for more than a couple of hours. But these are neither drying or thick. They have full coverage though. I brought these two shades as options for my summer ball makeup and was not disappointed, I ended up choosing Celebrity Skin for the night but both are staples in my makeup bag.

These are perfect for long days or nights, with a few touch-ups, these will serve you well. I don't for a second regret buying them, I absolutely love them and the shades are perfect for me - I find darker lipsticks more intimidating because they highlight the thinness of my lips and yellowness of my teeth.  Also, I don't think the price point is that bad. I paid about £16 for each lipstick. I will be buying more of Jeffree Star's lipsticks in the future.

Lime Crime's Diamond Crushers in shade LIT

This was a birthday present from my best friend who got me a bag full of sparkly goodies. I'm a sucker for anything glittery. Also, I'm obsessed with the name 'LIT' because I love that word, I have no idea why I'm weird like that. So, I automatically fell in love with this lipstick.

As you can see from the above picture, the Diamond Crusher is perfect on its own for a subtler (if glitter is subtle?) look or over the top of lipstick for an extra pop. The sade LIT is a rose gold colour, which I love, and is the perfect addition to anybody's makeup bag. A little bit of this on your lips and you're ready for a night out.

Thank you for taking the time to visit my blog and read this post.
I really appreciate it. x
